Scholarship Winner: Yari Castro Roman
Congratulations, Yari!
This week Anna and I went to Windsor High School, (Max was class of ’72) to choose from the many talented art students, one special artist to win the Max Coyer Memorial Scholarship award.
There were many gifted creators in the running, but the one that stood out to me was Yarizabelliz Castro Roman.
I chose Yari for the scholarship because her artwork shows the kind of creativity and melding of realism and surrealism that I know Max would have loved.
Thank you, teachers, for your kind words about Max and pointing out his painting to the crowd. It was so heartwarming to hear the gasps when students realized that the painting they have admired in the Media Center for years is actually a Max Coyer.

Yes! this artist does have a sense of Max’s spirit in her work and I know he would really
admire her paintings shown here. I was a good friend of Max in high school and college and beyond
until he moved to New York.
